  • Numerous presentations and articles on Community Energy in the City of Solana Beach.
  • City of Solana Beach Management Report.
  • Technical Feasibility Report, Solana Beach.

Fall 2015
  • Presented an "Open Letter in Support of CCA" to the Encinitas City Council in support of that community's consideration of CCA.  The Open Letter is posted so that other community groups of similar mind may utilize SDED's language in their own comments.
  • Presentation on "Roadblocks to Renewable Energy in San Diego County and Beyond", sponsored by North County Climate Change Alliance at the San Diego County Library, Vista Branch. A personal presentation by SDED Co-Founder Lane Sharman, see his slides here.
 Summer 2015
  • Presented "Community Electricity Choice" to the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors' Governmental Affairs Committee.  Proposed a Draft Resolution in support for SDAR Board consideration.
  • Joined CCA advocates to ensure the CA Assembly's landmark Climate Action measure SB 350 did not retain IOU-sponsored language to hamstring future CCA formation. See SDED's letter here.
  • Continuing its "Clean Electricity Watchdog" role, SDED flagged a trap in IOU "CCA neutrality" ( "Toward Strong Climate Action Plans") and joined the debate about for-profit vs non-profit CCA start-up providers.
  • Presented to San Diego County in the "Comprehensive Renewable Energy Plan" (CREP) process.  CREP will set the direction San Diego County will take to achieve its renewable energy objectives, including CCA.
Spring 2015
  • Continued to serve as "Clean Electricity Watchdog", by shining a spotlight on the "Utility Death Spiral" and the frustrating situation facing San Diego area Schools that Implemented Solar.  Why have the electricity bills of these schools continued to increase?  See the answer here.
  • Monitored closely the (delayed) progress of the San Diego City CCA Feasibility Study: "Why Isn't There Community Choice Energy in San Diego in 2015?"  Read the background and explanation on the history and objectives of this CCA Study, here.
  • Recognized the Terrific Start and gratifying response as Businesses stepped forward to support SDED in the first 30 days of SDED's Business Membership Campaign.
  • Strengthened SDED's leadership and strategic guidance with launch of a Panel of Advisors.  Five clean energy experts joined the Directors in shaping SDED's approach to advancing Clean Electricity Choice in the region.  Get acquainted with our Advisors here.

  • The City of Solana Beach on Jan 11 passed unanimously the first resolution in San Diego County specifically in support of participating in a joint study to form a Community Choice Energy Aggregation. Read the background and the resolution.

  • Business Membership Program engaging the business community as essential stakeholders in the formation of Community Energy Program.

Californians for Energy Choice form as a result of their perseverance to defeat AB 2145.
San Diego Energy District is an integral partner to Californians for Energy Choice and serves as the San Diego anchor for Community Energy formation in San Diego. San Diegans expressed deep gratitude for SDED's efforts in the defeat of AB 2145 which as written would have destroyed the ability of a municipality to form a viable Community Choice Program.

The founding of the San Diego Energy District was a response to the illegal attempt of San Diego Gas & Electric to impose a specific and new fee on all existing installations of solar creating a massive change in the Net Metering economics in place throughout the State of California. The PUC found the rate request illegal. However, the action motivated Lane Sharman and Bill Powers to found SDED and begin looking at utility alternatives including Community Choice and Municipalization.
