The Energy Futures Academy

SDED's Energy Futures Academy (EFA) is a comprehensive multi-session course designed to develop literacy in an array of “clean energy futures” topics.  Modeled after the San Diego County Water Authority’s very successful Water Academy, EFA brings audiences of local decision makers to a basic understanding of current and future "clean energy topics", starting with community choice aggregation.  It also offers an opportunity to dig deeper into a wide array of present and emerging clean energy technologies, issues and applications.

All topics are placed in the context of California energy statutes, players, policies and current practice.  Aimed at community leaders at any level of energy awareness, EFA’s content develops a common vocabulary and higher level of understanding regarding the increasingly decentralized, layered and multifaceted clean energy world emerging around us.

A major 2018 initiative, EFA resulted from SDED's participation in the University of San Diego’s Non-Profit Institute of Leadership’s Catalyst Challenge, a course in innovation and "outside the box" program design.  The challenge:  to develop leadership artistry as exemplified by an innovative stretch project designed to catapult SDED to the next level of excellence and success.

SDED pioneered the Energy Futures Academy in late 2018 through its "beta" offering, to test content and program format. The beta focused largely on the fundamentals of Community Choice Energy, structures, risks and benefits, impacts and rewards, and examined how Community Choice will continue to alter the energy landscape.

SDED is the process of developing the next phases of the EFA program.  Please contact us for more information, including ways to bring the Energy Futures Academy to your city, town or workplace.
