The Consulting Focus of the San Diego Energy District
Advanced Community Energy is a statewide initiative allowing all communities to employ new technologies, products and best practices leading to community resilience, lower GHG, and increases in grid reliability.
San Diego's San Vicente Pumped Hydro Project
holds the promise for long lasting, bulk energy storage and is an example of a local project.
Lithium Ion battery products are decreasing in price creating a promising resource for schools, hospitals, fire departments, churches and buildings in which to electrify the load profile with renewables. SDED helps vendors with their public relations and marketing.
Distributed Virtual Power Plants and Microgrids are showing how to build resilience across an array of energy uses within the local sector.
The 2019 Energy Futures Webinar Series will explore exciting local development ideas like the above and CCA organization, procurement, scheduling, planning, contracting, adequacy, and energy independence ... thus, creating a new cadre of professionals capable of leading a regional CCA.
It's time to accelerate progress toward San Diego's new energy future.

Technologies have changed. Communities, businesses and the planet all need a new model of electricity supply. CCAs have proven that decentralized, local clean energy production costs less, cleans the air and provides local jobs.
Time to make the switch. Become a SDED member. Join the effort to build a power company that is more representative of local and business interests. The cost of energy under the current regime is among the highest in the country. It's a drag on our local economy and the cost of doing business.
Become a member and join the fight for electricity choice and lower energy costs. Help accelerate Choice in San Diego. Reap the benefits - a more sustainable and more competitive electricity system throughout the region. And claim your first reward.

Today (unless you are one of the few direct access customers) you have NO CHOICE in your electricity provider. SDGE supplies your home or business. They tell you what rate you'll pay. You can't negotiate and you can't choose any other supplier.
San Diego Energy District (SDED) is the region's strongest voice for energy choice and competition. Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is the fastest tool we have. Founded in 2011, SDED will live and breathe only CCA until we have achieved a Community Choice program for every city in San Diego.
Why CCA? It's the fastest, most effective path to the future. The present electricity system -- monopoly utilities working in their shareholders interests, unaligned with businesses and communities -- is over 100 years old. Way past its 'sell by' date.

Strengthening the Foundation of SDED
These four objectives ensure that SDED continues to grow and strengthen. The stronger we are, the more able SDED is to realize its other priority Objectives.
- Create and Utilize an Advisory Board -- Chartered in 2014, the Advisory Board begins work in January 2015. Their efforts will make all SDED efforts smarter and more effective.
- Expand the Business Membership Program -- Businesses throughout the San Diego region have a lot at stake in the drive for Community Choice. SDGE rates have increased steadily since 2013, with another increase of 13% to hit in mid-2015. That pattern of continued increase places all businesses at risk - faced with expenses rising at rates easily exceeding their margins of profitability. To support a better approach, Join SDED. The CCA programs in Marin and Sonoma Counties (see CCA Developments) show vividly that Community Choice can make a huge difference for businesses.
- Complete the 2013 SD County Community Enhancement Grant -- In summer 2013, SDED was honored with a Community Enhancement Grant from San Diego County awarded through the offices of Supervisor Dave Roberts. The grant recognized SDED's dedicated education on community clean energy choice and awarded $5,000 for website, marketing/public education and "sustained outreach...on Community Choice Aggregation". This support has made possible the complete redesign and rebuilding of SDED's website and web-based educational efforts.
- Complete a Financial Plan for SDED -- SDED has a lot of "assets" in its growing number of members and volunteers. To ensure stability over time, however, any non-profit must look to a balance of revenue sources: grants, donations, memberships and possibly services, all in support of the tax-exempt "public purpose". 2015's Financial Plan will set targets for each revenue area, to ensure a strong financial Foundation under every SDED activity.
