El Nino +6 -200
A Personal Talk by Lane Sharman
At this talk, Lane will explain the title of a planned book, "El Ninos +6 -200", a personal narrative of hope and reality about the future. The title embraces the power of mathematics and the irony of El Ninos as a term for storms.
Interactively, Lane will guide a discussion as to why San Diego with its near-infinite set of local, clean energy resources plods and does not run to a clean energy future. What specifically are the roadblocks? At the talk, we will explore the Carlsbad Encina Power Plant and Pio Pico; the impacts of the SDG&E "solar bypass tariff" for schools and businesses; the new utility revenue plans; progress and impediments to a local, community energy program; campaign contributions and legislative interference; and, paralysis by analysis, the do-nothing mindset. SB 350 was passed by the CA legislation on Sept 11. What does it mean for clean energy in CA and how did SDG&E attempt to thwart Community Energy (and lose trying). We will discuss SB 350. A Clean Energy Future is imminent. It is mandatory. And, yes, there are and continue to be roadblocks for citizens and business alike in San Diego. Some are self-imposed. Others are from the entrenched interests of the status quo. There has never been a global threat like climate change. It is an "all hands" moment. All oars in the water. Intense local collaboration will yield the discoveries to move the Business As Usual Dime. The North County Climate Alliance is an essential force for moving this Dime. About Lane Sharman Lane is an activist. He was arrested in May, 1972 on the Del Mar tracks during a protest against the Viet Nam War and the bombing of the Haiphong Harbor and civilian infrastructure. (See Wikipedia) In 2006, Lane founded the first independent water credit exchange in California, the Borrego Water Exchange. Credits are mandatory tender for obtaining a water permit in Borrego Springs. In October 2011, he co-founded the San Diego Energy District to advocate for energy choice. At that time, San Diego Gas & Electric sought to impose a fee on existing solar users. Today, this same kind of discriminatory tax is now a central part of new Net Metering proposals from the IOUs. Lane along with other local and State activists has joined to oppose the IOU Proposals for Net Metering 2.0. SDG&E recently injected poison-pill amendments into proposed legislation to impede the formation and cost-effective operation of Community Choice Energy programs in California. https://www.linkedin.com/in/lanesharman Profile, LinkedIn. Lane is proud of what California is and will do. His Great-Great Grandfather was a California pioneer from Germany and a Los Angeles Founding Father. (See Wikipedia) |
