San Diego Mobilization for Community Choice

Mobilization toward Community Electricity Choice in San Diego and southern California began in 2011 with the founding of SDED, and took off in 2012.  In 2013, SDED was recognized for its leadership and actions in the following:
  • The County of San Diego is completing a Comprehensive Renewable Energy Plan that includes Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) as an integral part of the plan.
  • The City of San Diego has identified in its Climate Action Plan a Community Energy Program for meetings its enforceable GHG reduction goals.
  • Elected leaders and staff throughout San Diego now understand the law and benefits of Community Choice Energy, via SDED's 2012 Conference for officials "Time to Make the Switch".   Agenda, speaker bios here.
  • Initiatives are underway in many southern California cities to pass CCA resolutions of support. For example Solana Beach and Encinitas.
San Diego Energy District mobilized all of these outcomes in San Diego or played a key supporting role.

In 2017, SDED follows the money of Marin Clean Energy, Sonoma Clean Power, Lancaster Choice Energy and our local Investor-Owned Utility, San Diego Gas and Electric. See for yourself why local ownership of a Community Energy Program makes so much sense. Follow the Money!
