National and Regional Experts to Guide San Diego Energy District
Since 2011, the San Diego Energy District (SDED) has been the foremost advocate for "Community Electricity Choice" in the San Diego region.  Today, SDED announces a s
tellar group of Advisors to assist in guiding SDED's direction and activities, as debate about clean electricity choice for San Diego ramps up in 2015.

SDED's inaugural six Advisors met for the first time with the SDED Board on March 27.  Their focus:  the trajectory and priorities for SDED messaging and educational work in 2015.  Among the experts lending their insights and expertise to SDED:

  • Kurt Yeager, Vice-Chair, Galvin Electricity Institute -- Mr. Yeager, former President of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI),  joined Motorola founder Bob Galvin in the Galvin Electricity Initiative (GEI) in 2005.  GEI is a national think-tank and advocacy institute for Smart Grid policies, and as such, Mr. Yeager brings deep national perspective to SDED's work in southern California.

Len Hering, RADM USN (Ret), Executive Director, Center for Sustainable Energy -- Mr. Hering is well known in San Diego and regionally as an articulate and perceptive observer of the rapidly growing clean energy industry.  As an operator of programs throughout California and increasingly in the Southwest and Northeast, CSE has unique perspective on the technologies and businesses succeeding in the clean energy industry.

Stuart Smits, Founder and CEO, New Energy Ventures --  Attorney Smits has over three decades of experience handling the complex intricacies of the commercial energy world at the state, regional and national levels. His expertise brings in-depth knowledge and guidance to SDED's discussion of CCAs and other new structures in the emerging clean electricity industry.

Jose Torre-Bueno, VP and Chief Technology Officer, Empowered Energy Solutions -- Dr. Torre-Bueno brings to SDED a unique holistic, big-picture approach to energy efficiency and on-site generation, together with his perspective as a mid-sized business serving the San Diego region and an "outside the box" orientation toward the clean electricity industry.

David Sean Dufek -- A local citizen, solar homeowner and attorney specializing in business litigation, Mr. Dufek knows first-hand the benefits and costs, rewards and challenges of implementing clean electricity generation on a personal scale.

Diane M. Lesher -- Experienced fund-raising professional, project manager and long-time advocate and supporter of clean electricity choice, Ms. Lesher recently served as a solar sales consultant for SolarCity, one of the nation's largest residential solar installation companies.  She brings SDED deep familiarity with the competitive solar energy marketplace, including the 300+ installers active in the San Diego region.

  • SDED --and many others-- anticipate that some time in 2015 the City of San Diego will release its long-awaited Community Choice Aggregation Feasibility Study.  SDED Advisors will advise SDED Directors on an appropriate position and slate of SDED activities in response to the Study's recommendations.

  • A more complete Profile of each Advisor is available on SDED's website.  Together they bring regional, national and local insight, bperspective and guidance to SDED's work, to ensure that each SDED step is informed by their expertise and insight.

    We welcome and thank them.

About San Diego Energy District
Since 2011, the San Diego Energy District (SDED) has been a strong, vocal and single-focus advocate for the creation in San Diego of a "community choice aggregation" (CCA), a vehicle under California State law that allows municipalities to choose cleaner and cheaper electricity for residents and businesses.  A 501c3 non-profit formed by energy experts Lane Sharman and Bill Powers, SDED is currently managed by a Board of Directors and guided by a panel of expert advisors.

SDED has hosted conferences, workshops and events on both the benefits of clean electricity choice and on CCA as a means of securing those benefits, and assisted municipal officials to pass resolutions supporting CCA.  Supported by donors, citizens and business members, SDED stands out as an articulate voice on the imperative of clean electricity choice as an alternative to the cost and damage of the regulated and entrenched electricity monopoly.  For more information see www.sandiegoenergydistrict.org
