For Immediate Release - October 27, 2015
San Diego Energy District appoints first paid Executive Director to lead efforts toward cleaner, cheaper electricity for the San Diego region.
Erika Morgan assumes leadership role for SDED's work to establish Community Electricity Choice countywide. Erika Morgan has long experience as policy maker, consultant and public educator, organization builder and manager, all in the clean energy industry. Her strong background in clean energy policy and understanding of the importance of transitioning to cleaner power with lower rates for consumers make her a strong choice to lead Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) advocacy region-wide.
“Erika has a unique mix of skills and experience that suit her very well for SDED's leadership at this time. She's an experienced clean energy advocate and policy maker, having worked at an executive level in two different states," said Lane Sharman, SDED Co-Founder and Board Chair. "And, because she has worked in San Diego's energy industry for the last four years, she fully understands what's at stake for clean energy providers now. She sees the huge role that 'Community Electricity Choice' can and should play in mitigating the damage ahead for this industry. Erika sees that vision as well as anyone could.”
Added Michael Hetz, SDED's Vice Chair: "Erika has also seen 'Community Electricity Choice' from the inside – she has worked directly with wholesale electricity suppliers to create electricity aggregations for both businesses and residential customers. She has also founded and grown clean energy non-profits."
Kurt Yeager, President/CEO Emeritus of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Vice Chair (Emeritus) of the national Galvin Electricity Initiative and an SDED Advisor, also added “Erika’s outstanding ...experience has made her a very effective, knowledgeable and stimulating leader for SDED.”
SDED also announced three new Directors, each with a commitment to SDED's mission of providing cleaner power with lower rates.
Stated Board Chair Lane Sharman: “These three are wonderful additions to SDED's Board. Each brings important perspective on the priority of realizing electricity choice. They all 'get it' – how cleaner power and lower rates are critical for keeping our region a thriving and healthy place for future generations. We thank them for their commitment and welcome their contribution.”

About San Diego Energy District
Since 2011, the San Diego Energy District (SDED) has been a strong, vocal and single-focus advocate for the creation in San Diego of a "Community Choice Aggregation" (CCA), a vehicle under California State law that allows municipalities to choose cleaner and cheaper electricity for residents and businesses. A 501c3 non-profit formed by energy experts Lane Sharman and Bill Powers, SDED is currently managed by a Board of Directors, an Executive Committee and guided by a panel of expert advisors.
SDED has hosted conferences, workshops and events on both the benefits of clean electricity choice and on CCA as a means of securing those benefits, and assisted municipal officials to pass resolutions supporting CCA. Supported by donors, citizens and business members, SDED stands out as an articulate voice on the imperative of clean electricity choice as an alternative to the cost and damage of the regulated and entrenched electricity monopoly.
